Preparing your school for the new allergy safety requirements from September 2026

Food allergies in schools are now under sharper national focus, with new protections and clearer expectations being introduced for schools in England from September 2026.

The Government has announced stronger protections for children with allergies in school, including plans for schools to hold spare adrenaline auto-injectors for emergency use. At the same time, proposed changes linked to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill would require schools’ arrangements for supporting pupils with medical conditions to include an allergy safety policy.

In practical terms, there is a greater expectation around:

  • whole-school allergy management

  • clear allergy procedures

  • individual pupil healthcare planning

  • staff awareness and emergency response training

  • control of food and allergen risks

  • communication with parents, pupils and catering teams

  • access to emergency medication, including spare pens where permitted and required.

MR Safety Training believes in providing as much help as possible for you to meet these requirements.
